Available in Engate MailSentinel™ products, GlobalRules™ is unique in its ability to profile every offending network, including every legitimate and illicit IP address within the network. By proactively profiling both clean and compromised IP addresses, Engate‘s global intelligence is instantly aware of new computers that become members of botnets and stops the distribution of email-borne threats at the protocol level, before it reaches the enterprise gateway and has a chance to compromise IT resources, slow down network performance, crash servers and invade privacy.
GlobalRules™ Transcends Real-time Blocking Lists (RBLs)
Engate is impervious to all threats because GlobalRules uses proprietary techniques and source information that cannot be forged, circumvented, or adapted by a spammer's present and future ingenuity. Engate's proprietary security technology preemptively detects and permanently stops attacks from sources that have never previously sent spam -- such as botnets which may represent over 90% of spam and blended attacks. Engate‘s proprietary GlobalRules is differentiated from reputation systems and RBLs in the following ways:
1. Engate segregates illicit mail exchangers from legitimate mail exchangers and validates which hosts should and shouldn‘t be sending direct-to-MX email.
2. Engate‘s technology provides a more detailed "depth and breadth" analysis of the network (more detail can be provided under an NDA).
3. Unlike traditional RBLs, Engate does not store and rely on IP addresses that have historically sent spam so our accuracy levels are not thwarted by new sources that don't yet have a reputation. Once we profile an entire network (even IPs that have not spammed), we are able to proactively detect new compromised sources and botnets as they emerge, ensuring immediate protection against any spamming tactic that may arise now or in the future.
4. As a "Map of the Internet", Engate‘s network profiling technology delivers unprecedented real-time visibility into malicious sources from around the world. Engate uniquely profiles every IP address within the network, segregates legitimate mail servers from all other network hosts, and establishes proprietary ‘smart rules’ that have the unique ability to immediately identify compromised computers, detect protocol fraud, and intelligently reject illicit connections at the network level.
5. Using proprietary techniques, automated tools and expert human analysis, Engate provides an accurate assessment of IP ranges. Culminating from 6 years of profiling spamming networks, our network profiling engineers have taken the time and effort to profile the network in question to see what it is actually being used for.
6. Delivery delays often occur as RBLs store and query millions of IP addresses for mail processing. In addition, RBLs use aging algorithms which let bad IP addresses out of the "penalty box" and free to attack again after a certain period of time resulting in more compromised sources and more false positives. Engate does not store or recycle IP addresses. We use a unique profiling technique that efficiently profiles whole networks with just a few "smart rules". Engate operates in real time and at network speeds.
7. GlobalRules does not depend on the use of whitelists or blacklists, but flexibly supports their use if required by the email administrator. Engate uniquely functions without capturing, reading or storing email content. What's more, Engate operates in real time and does not need to query remote databases for email processing, thereby operating efficiently at network speeds with the highest throughput in the market.
8. Engate‘s rulebase is very efficient and less than 15,000. It sits on an unprecedented small footprint (17MB ROM, 256MB RAM), making it easily deployable by any software, appliance and hardware vendor.
